Hiring Marginally Up 1% in Nov'13 over Oct'13: Naukri Job Speak Index

The Index has witnessed 16% increase in hiring in Nov'13 over Nov'12

  • Amongst metros, Kolkata witnessed the maximum improvement in hiring trends with 14% increase in Nov'13 over Oct'13 followed by Pune and Hyderabad with an increase in hiring of 8% and 7 % M-O-M respectively.
  • Professionals working in IT software continue to see growth with the index showing an increase of 10% M-O-M.

The Naukri Job Speak Index for the month of November 2013 was at 1,300 showing a 1% growth in hiring, when compared to October'13. Annual comparison shows that hiring activity has witnessed a 16% increase in Nov'13 as compared to Nov'12. Industry wise hiring sentiment was positive but weak in Nov'13 except in IT-Software which has seen an upward trend with the index moving up by 10% in Nov'13 when compared to Oct'13. Sectors like insurance and telecom saw double digit decline with the index moving down by 29% and 17% respectively in the same period.

Among the top metros, Kolkata has shown the maximum increase in hiring with the index moving up by 14% in Nov'13 when compared to Oct'13.

Mr. Ambarish Raghuvanshi, Group President Finance and CFO Info Edge (India) Ltd said. "Indian economy is currently poised on the cusp of change since general elections are around the corner. Despite global uncertainties, the hiring outlook for the country in 2014 remains positive. The Naukri Job Speak Index has moved up in the past two months which presages better hiring outlook in 2014. Global companies are now looking at India as a core growth market since India has morphed into the talent powerhouse with the emergence of new technologies and business models. We are bullish on hiring in India next year."

Industry Sector Analysis:
An in depth analysis reveals that amid industries, IT-Software continues to experience growth with the Naukri Job Speak Index moving up by 10% M-O-M. Oil & Gas and Banking are also seeing positive growth with the index up by 6% and 4% respectively. In terms of downward trends, sectors like BPO and Auto are facing a dip with the index moving down by 17% and 9% M-O-M.
Annual comparison shows that IT Software has continued to grow with the Naukri Job Speak index moving up 37% Y-O-Y.

Functional Area Analysis:
The demand for professionals working in IT Software continues to grow with the index moving up by 8% in Nov'13 as compared to Oct'13. Apart from that, professionals working in areas of Project Management and Engineering Design are also witnessing an increase in demand with the index moving up by 6% and 5% respectively. Annual comparison shows that IT Software has maintained its growth curve with the index moving up by 34% Y-on-Y.

In terms of declines, professionals in ITES/BPO area have seen a decline with the Naukri Job Speak Index moving down by 17% M-O-M.

City Wise Analysis:
Among all metros, Bangalore and Chennai have seen modest growth with the index moving up by 7% and 2% respectively. In terms of decrease, Delhi-NCR and Mumbai have observed a decline of 2% M-O-M each.
Annual comparison shows Delhi saw an increase with the index moving up by 25% in Nov'13 as compared to Nov'12.
